Dreams

"All men are great in their dreams."

Everyone dreams. There are many kinds of dreams. Usually you just think of them as good dreams or nightmares. Nightmares are usually more vivid, although there are some good dreams that are real enough. Dreams are usually in black and white though you may think that they are in color. That is only because you know the color you are thinking of but you are not really seeing it. It is said that dreams are the way people fulfill their secret wishes and desires.

When you dream you either have a good dream or a nightmare. Either way you are usually in the dream. The most common dream is of flying, or of being the hero and having everyone look up to you. That is because it is something universally desirable. It is only natural to dream about being able to do something no one else has ever been to do such as flying, or just being able for some brief moment to be on top of the world. The most common nightmare is of someone chasing you. You run and run, but no matter what you do, you can't lose the thing following you. Suddenly you trip and he grabs you. He's pulling a gun out! He's cocking it! He's pulling the trigger! You hear the gun fire! You wake up. Research has shown that no matter how horrible your nightmare might be you will never die in it. It has been stated that the stress would be so great that it would cause a heart attack and kill you.

Nightmares are more vivid than real dreams because you have a tendency to remember bad things more than good things. The feeling you get when you are in a near-death experience is usually a constriction of the chest and a dread of going back to sleep for anywhere from five minutes to years. But you distinctly remember what caused the pain and you hope to avoid encountering it again. The feeling you get when you have a good dream is that of eleation and all you want to do is go back to sleep and recapture that feeling. Unforunately, you can't always remember why you have that great feeling.

Freud states that dreams are just a way for people to live out their personal fantasies. He claims that a dream is harmless and a dream means exactly what you see it as. Things in your dreams don't symbolize anything. So if you dream that you are falling off a cliff it just means that you are afraid of falling off a cliff, not that you are afraid of falling.
